As with many companies of this era Alessi experienced a downturn during the war years and was forced to manufacture products for uniforms and airplanes to sustain the business.  The post war period involved the production of a whole range of stainless steel products to meet the demand to replace silver plated alloys.  Since then the company has expanded to utilize external designers and now boasts a team of 500 people, who are directly involved in project development, production, sales and distribution.

Alessi Watches are just an example of the diverse range of designer products that the Italian brand creates for the global market.  The Alessi watch collections range from aluminum cases and leather bands to collections characterized by bright colors and concave crystals. The chief designers such as Ron Arad, Stefano Pirovano and Alberta Meda are always searching for new and different constructions and functions for the Alessi watches they design.  For example Ron Arad uses rotating disks as the basis for showing the time in the Alessi 3000 series. In this unique design, the current hour and minute appear in two distinct openings that rotate around the face of the watch, revealing only a small part of the artwork at a time.
