Arne Jacobsen Watches
Arne Jacobsen was a famous
Danish designer and architect. Born in 1902 in Copenhagen Jacobsen was born to
Jewish parents and lived there until his 20s before he started a life of
traveling. He went to New York for a brief stint, worked in Germany as a
bricklayer and studied drawing in Italy. In 1943 he fled to Sweden and lived
there in exile before later returning to Denmark. He was educated at the Royal
Danish Academy of Fine Arts and the School of Architecture in Copenhagen.
As a
designer, Jacobsen made prototypes for furniture, textiles, wallpaper,
silverware etc. Among his most famous designs are the Swan, Egg and Ant chairs.
As an architect some of his famous works include the Danish National Bank and
the famous 1960 Radisson SAS Royal Hotel of which room 606 still features the
original fittings and furniture he designed. Arne Jacobsen also served as a
professor at an art academy and was awarded honorary doctorates from many
foreign universities.
Between 1937 and 1966, Arne Jacobsen also designed a small selection of clocks
and watches to complement the already amazing portfolio of work. The Arne
Jacobsen watches include the ‘City Hall’, ‘Bankers’, and ‘Romer’ watch series.
