Auguste Reymond began manufacturing watches in 1898 in Tramelan. The company is
still located there withstanding a roller coaster history since its beginnings.
As the founder Auguste Reymond sought to create watches that were assembled by
hand by craftsmen whose skills have been conveyed by generations of
watchmakers. While the watches were extremely valuable, the company was run by
investors from the mid 1920s as the Depression tool its toll on sales. As the
industry picked up, Auguste Reymond enjoyed the prosperity of the 50s and 60s
becoming once again a leading Tramelan watchmaker. It was in this time Auguste
Reymond launched watches that could assist the blind. Today Auguste Reymond is
still the world specialist in creating tactile Braille watches. Continues below...

Watch Collections
The
1970s proved challenging for the company with the introduction of the quartz
movements and the subsequent decline of mechanical watches. Auguste Reymond was
liquidated. A former manager of Auguste Reymond, James Choffat, bought most of
the company's remaining parts and equipment to keep the Auguste Reymond name
alive. Nitella purchased the company in 1989 and is also based in Tramelan.
