Avocet Watches
Avocet watches are created
with bikers, hikers, skiers and Alpine enthusiasts in mind. Avocet popularized
the altimeter and heart rate watches. Sold under the model name of Vertech, the
watches are in their second edition. The company was started in 1992 and has
been specializing in altimeter watches.
The Avocet Vertech II watch
displays altimeter changes of five foot and ten foot increments,
current ascent/descent
rate, daily vertical feet, yearly vertical feet, maximum ascent rate, average
ascent rate, barometer, barometric trend for weather prediction, temperature
sensing unit, full-function chronometer, timer, and alarm.
Other watch model on the Avocet watch range includes the Vertech Ski and Vertech
Alpin. These watches can quantify ascent, a unique feature of Avocet watches.
The Vertech Ski
is fantastic for skiers because the ski function will, in addition to previous
functions, record how many runs you have skied. A useful extension of this
function is that the average rate of feet traveled over a predetermined period
of time can be measured.
Another unique function of
some of the models is the barometer which can
compute barometric pressure from a known
altitude. All models come with chronographs with split and lap functions and a
memory system for recording laps. Avocet also make a heart rate watch for men
and women.
Price
range of Avocet watches is US$25 to US$150.
