Badollet Watches
Badollet watches are considered amongst the world’s most prized antiques.
Especially valuable are the signed Badollet wrist and pocket watches. Geneva
watch company, Colomb & Balmer, now owns the historic Badollet brand.
The Badollet watch making tradition can be loosely traced back to 1570s. A long
line of family watchmakers had a reputation and name deeply rooted in Swiss
watch making tradition. Family members established themselves in New York,
London and Paris in the 1800s further enhancing the brand name, and J.M Badollet
ran the company from Geneva where he oversaw the orders for rough movements and
wheel trains.
The Badollet
company won many international awards for their creations and continued to
exhibit right through the Industrial Revolution. This continued until 1897 when
Colomb & Balmer took control of the Badollet company. They continued creating
the watches that were made famous under the Badollet name while also
diversifying into other superior brands such as Geneve, Genva and Etna to name
only a few.
Badollet
watches can reach up to US$8,000 in price but are very hard to value as most are
sold under auction or by collectors.
