Ball
watches are testimony to the period of history associated with the American
railroads. In 1888, Webb C.Ball used time signals to bring time accuracy to the
town of Cleveland, Ohio. This was just five years after the adoption of
standard time in 1883. Ball was the Chief Inspector of the railroad lines and
soon the Ball network extended to 75% of the railroad throughout America,
further extending into Mexico and Canada. Continues below...
Ball Watch Collections
Following a major train accident in Kipton, Ohio in 1893, Webb Ball was chosen
to investigate time conditions on the railroads and to implement an inspection
system for the keeping of time among railroad workers. He established a system
that kept variations in time to under 30 seconds. From these beginnings, Ball
watches grew to be one of the most respected watch brands in America. Still
manufactured with the same attention to detail of the shape of the hour and
minute hands to the style of the numerals, the Ball watches are a reliable
timepiece.
The collection of Ball
watches still maintains their origins to the railroads of America with names
such as Engineer, Conductor and Fireman. Features of Ball watches include
Self-powered micro gas lights, shock resistance, anti magnetic properties, water
resistance and low temperature oil movement for essential for mechanical
operation. Ball watches range in price from US$1,000 to US$2,500.
