Baume
& Mercier watches are characterized by their signature logo, the symbol PHI,
adopted in 1964. This symbol represents the perfect harmony achieved in Baume &
Mercier watches since 1830. The watch making house began when two brothers,
Louis Victor and Pierre-Joseph-Celestin Baume established their watch company in
the Jura region in Switzerland. They expanded into Europe and became official
in London in 1850.
The Baume
brothers business continued to see great success throughout Europe and in 1918
on of the grandsons of the founding brother formed a partnership with Paul
Mercier. Not long after this in 1921 the brand was awarded the Geneva Hallmark
for quality.
