Blancpain Watches

The Blancpain watch company has a long history dating back to 1735.  It was in this year that Jehan-Jacques Blancpain launched the company in his farmhouse and with little idea to the popularity that the Blancpain name would ultimately gain.  The business grew steadily and David Louis Blancpain, the founders second child became an integral part in the brand’s international growth.  As each batch of six Blancpain pocket watches were completed, he would travel to France and Germany to make sales.  David Louis’s son, Frederick Emile, was also a driving force and turned the cottage business into a flourishing business venture by upgrading the machine tools and helping the company become true ‘manufacturers’.  It was after the First World War that Frederick Emile’s son would enter the family business and he introduced the wristwatch to the product line, a defining step in progress.  The long run of family involvement ended when he died in 1932, the last of seven generations.  Continues below...

It wasn’t until 1983 that Jean-Claude Biver, an Omega executive, and Jacques Piguet joined to revive the Blancpain brand.  They chose the Jura mountains in Switzerland as the center of production to produce limited edition mechanical watches.  The re-launch proved a success and the company is reputed for their devotion to producing fine timepieces.  Less than 10,000 are created a year and each watchmaker is given the ability to personally build a complete watch rather than line production.  Blancpain watches are elegant and stylish and true to the company slogan, "Since 1735, there has never been a quartz Blancpain watch. And there never will be."

The Blancpain brand is now owned by Swatch along with other famous brands like Omega and Breguet.  Blancpain watch prices are varied with the most expensive watch, the 1735 Grande Compilation valued at US$839,000.
