Glycine Watches

Glycine watches stand for a fusion of trend and tradition. Established in Bienne, Switzerland in 1914, by the innovative horologist, Eugène Meylan, Glycine symbolizes the amalgamation of the classic art of watch making with modern design. Eugène Meylan’s claim to fame was in the development of precise yet miniscule watch movements, and in 1931 he presented the world with a well-functioning self-winding watch, which was years ahead of its time.  Continues below...

Glycine went through a tough period in the 70s upon the introduction of the quartz movement, and eventually was bought by Hans Brechbühler, who has already been working with Glycine in close cooperation. Under his able leadership and following him that of his daughter, Glycine shook off its previous setbacks and came out the stronger for it. It launched a quartz range, extremely resistant watches, super-thin watches, and a plethora of other innovations. Slowly the market for mechanical timepieces began to grow again and Glycine was once again happy to oblige. It presented, in quick succession, a rich assortment of increasingly larger diameter mechanical watches. These Glycine watches were lauded and appreciated the world over.

The most impressive entry into the wonderful Glycine range of collections was the AIRMAN watch. With large dials, this world timer capable of displaying the time in upto four time zones simultaneously is a definite winner. The first AIRMAN was launched in 1953, and has now become legendary. The AIRMAN 7 could be regarded as the spearhead of this collection and is a genuine world novelty.
