Louis Erard watches were founded in 1929 by Mr. Louis Erard in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The company originally managed the assembly of parts for other watch-making companies, but put their first watches on the market in 1931. The rest is, as they say, history.
Louis Erard started out with an insight that time is an endless fluid. Louis Erard expressed himself poetically during a fishing trip with his grandson in 1956: "Time is like the course of the river: it never runs backwards and it flows ceaselessly. The water is here but it's already down there as well".
And that was the inception of the Spirit of Time. Whether in the past, now or in the future, time always takes on the aspects of the ages through which it passes, inexorably and reliably; leaving its mark like a signature that comes to sublimate the Louis Erard brand-name. Once controlled in this way, it endures and moves forward in circles, like the circular form of the hours on the face of our watches: what goes round, comes round.
At the current time there are five ranges in the collection. The first one is 1931 - for collectors and lovers of Haute Horlogerie. Heritage is for the more conventional customer, and Move, for the active, sporty, young at heart at any age person. La Career is for trendsetters, those who like to roam the world, and opinion leaders, and Les Montres de Poche, for those who love everything and anything nostalgic.
