This Swiss watchmaker of the 18th century was a trailblazing talent who invented the amazing self-winding movement which took the world by storm. This invention which is the most impeccable device to move the mechanical Perrelet watches is invincible even in this 21st century. The invention was pioneering because before its arrival, the wearers of watches were obliged to move the timepieces by their hands. This was a very tiresome and intricate process - a little mistake and there was chance of ‘no time’ on watches! Abraham-Louis Perrelet stepped in to fix this problem. With years of extensive experiments, he finally achieved his dream in reality in 1770.

His grandson Louis Frederic Perrelet had inherited the gift of his ancestor who was trained under his grandfather in Paris in 1781. Learning the savoir-faire of watch crafting, Louis Frederic cut a name for himself as an interdependent watchmaker. His automatic clock created in 1815 was inundated with acclamations and he later became the official watch crafter for three kings-Louis XVIII, Charles X and Louis-Philippe. For his immense talent, this watchmaker was appointed the knight of the Legion of Honor.
