The heritage of the Rolex watches brand began when in 1905, Hans Wilsdorf founded a London based company dealing with the distribution of watches. 3 years later, he baptized his firm in the name of Rolex. The watch brand became the premier possessor of the official chronometer certificate in the year of 1910. Before Rolex no wristwatch was awarded with this prestigious certificate. Another laurel awaited the watch company after 4 years - it obtained Class A precision certificate (which had been so long awarded only to the marine chronometers) from the Kew observatory, UK.
Rolex watches invented the world’s premier waterproof case in 1926 and gave it an apt name-oyster. The watch company fabricated the first automatic winding mechanism, Perpetual Rotor in 1931. The Oyster Perpetual Day-Date which was manufactured in 1956, displaying the week’s day in full is now found in 26 languages.
Another wonder of the Rolex watches brand was its Deep Sea Special which was made to plunge 35,787ft down into the Pacific Ocean! The other marvel is the Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller which is water-resistant to 4000ft!
