Tutima Watches

In 1845 a handful of poverty stricken workers, farmers, weavers and unemployed men from the poor mountainous region of Erz in Germany, began to learn the ropes of watch making in order to make two square meals. With time, these novices creating precision watches made it in the watch making industry, some of them attaining success worldwide.

The massacre of the First World War marred the progress of these watchmakers. The development of the costly precision timepieces was hindered - the mood of the watch industry in Germany was gloomy. Glashutte, the abode of the watch manufactures was overcast by the shadow of the fatal war. In 1926, in the hope of getting rid of the desolate situation of the chronograph industry, a group of watch companies was set up.  UFAG (Uhren-Rohwerke-Fabrik Glashütte AG - UROFA - and Uhrenfabrik Glashütte AG) was established headed by Dr. Ernst Kurtz.

These watch companies started to manufacture movements that were as good as the Swiss-made movements. Tutima watches was the sobriquet for the high class timepieces. This name was appropriate for the high quality and the reliable watches because the etymology of Tutima is the Latin epithet ‘tutus’ meaning safe and protected. The high class performances of Tutima watches made over a thousand watch craftsmen achieve a permanent source of income.

The three principle lines of the Tutima watches are - classic line which possesses the elegant Tutima air force chronograph, military line which is known for its sturdiness and performance and new FX line which gives out three time zones.
